Next to the pretty church in San Blas Square the tranquil and cosy hostel San Blas is a good solution. It's convenient as all transport is at walking distance as well as the historical city. A coffee shop just on the corner, a chinese restaurant next street, the beautiful terrace of Secret Garden hotel for an unforgettable dinner and very helpful staff who are actually members of a wonderful family. The rooms in front have nice view but others have no view, only a window to the pleasant patio in the center but they are acceptable, as they are cheap and comfortable, equipped with hot water and cable TV, and are cleaned everyday. Prices are singles 6$-8$US common bath/private bath; and 13$US for a double with private bath. It's a safe place and its owners always take care of guests' possessions but as notorious as Quito is you'd better take extra care. Don't leave valuables alone in no case but put it in the hotel security box. There is laundry service, fax service, Internet, free left luggage service and the use of the kitchen.
The building is a restored colonial house standing proudly next to its neighbours. The large square in front is a beautiful sight for the first glimpse of the day.
