An interesting sight to begin with: a roman stadium located in a mall. The stage was originally build over the Sahat tepe and Taxim tepe. It has the form of a horseshoe, and had 30.000 marble seats where it was 180 metres long. It has thus the layout of a Delphian stadium. The stadium goes back to the 2 th century, during the rule of Septimus Severus (193-211) It was build for the Alexandrian games with as main sport disciplines spear throwing, jumping, fighting and running. These games where held every 4 years for a few days. Also gladiator fights were held here. Unfortunatley nowadays only 13 seat rows can be seen.
