This is Thailands answer to the Forbidden City in China or Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, Turkey.
Actually an entire complex of buildings dating to the late 18th century. Much was build on orders of King Mongkut. The most famous and one of the most elaborate buildings in the whole complex is the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. This sacred statue is housed in its own Wat. Shes must be removed before entering and photography is strictly prohibited. Other key structures include the golden chedi and the Grand Palace itself, built in a fusion of european and thai styles. Upon entry, dont forget to take a look at the giant demon guardians. Allow at least 1-2 hours to see everything including some spectacular murals from the Ramiekin. Its the Thai version of the Hindu Ramayana. Further evidence of the fusion of the 2 oriental religions in Thailand.
