"The Palm House" Top 5 Page for this destination Poznan Things to Do Tip by alancollins

Poznan Things to Do: 141 reviews and 313 photos

The Palm House which is the largest in Poland was built in 1929 and is located in Wilson Park, replacing an earlier building. During WW2 the building was severely damaged and the collection almost destroyed. The Palm House received a 9 year renovation between 1983 and 1992 and the various plants are located in 10 different hothouses covering an area of 4,600 square metres. It contains 17,000 plants, large cold water fish, water fall, water plants, an aquiarium, some snakes, a number of displays of insects and a café. When I visited there was an exhibition of potted tulips and a number serious photographers wandering around taking photos of the various plants. The local name of the building is ‘palmiarnia’ which translates into ‘palm house’.
