In central Castello, off Salizzada di San Lio, you'll find Calle del Paradiso.

It's a lovely exaple of Medieval Venice, and, at one end, is a Gothic arch (early-fifteenth).

On both sides it shows the Madonna della Misericordia, with her arms outstretched and two people sheltering under her cloak.

The arch was erected as a result of the marriage between two important Venetian families; the Foscari and the Mocenigo (it is possible that the two figures are the bride and bridegroom).

It's a good indicator of how Medieval Venice must once have looked: worth keeping an eye open for.
