"Walmer castle" Dover Things to Do Tip by Igraine

Dover Things to Do: 154 reviews and 222 photos

Strictly speaking this is not Dover but Walmer but is very close to Dover. But to make a Walmer page just for one tip is just not my thing.

Once again no pictures on the inside.

Walmer castle is part of the so called Cinque Ports. 5 castles that were especially built for guarding the english coast against the French. This castle itself is a rather massive building surrounded by moat and great gardens. It is actually lived in during summer by the current warden Admiral the Lord Boyce.
Inside the castle are nicely decorated. There is also a room with all sorts of memorablia from the Duke of Wellington, who died here.

You get a headset with information. I thought a bit too much information.

Directions: On coast S of Walmer, on A258; Junction 13 of M20 or from M2 toDeal
Phone: 01304 364288
