  The Old Post Office

This building on Oranienburger Strasse looks more like a church but was in fact the old post office (Postfuhramt). The building was built between 1875 and 1881. When it was completed it housed the pneumatic postal system and was the main post office for parcels. There was a training school, sleeping accommodation in the building, and a stables for 200 horses and the mail carriages in the courtyard. The building was damaged during WW2 but was reconstructed after the war but became surplus to requirements after the fall of the Berlin Wall. After its closure it was used for exhibitions for a time but is in a state of flux at the moment.
