"Shed 11 and 13 - Heritage and Exhibitions" Top 5 Page for this destination Waterfront Tip by Kakapo2

Waterfront, Wellington: 23 reviews and 46 photos

This photo shows Shed 13, in the Kumutoto Precint of the Waterfront. Do not bother about all the names of the waterfront precints, far too difficult LOL You need a map to find out where one stretch ends and the other one starts. Kumutoto is left of Queen’s Wharf, if you stand with your back to the city and look to the water, Sheds 11 and 13 are left of the Academy of Fine Arts.

Whereas Shed 11 was converted into an exhibition venue and gallery space in 1985, Shed 13 has not found a new purpose yet. To me, this red brick building looks like an indoor fish or produce market place.

Shed 11 was completed in 1905, and originally was a storage shed for the port. It became redundant when container shipping became the way of transportation. It is identical to Shed 13. Lately it underwent earthquake strengthening, and the exterior was polished up.
