Grenada declared its independence from the British Empire on February 7th 1974 and adopted a modified Westminster parliamentary. It was the first of the six West Indies Associated States to do so. It also maintains its place inside the British Commonwealth and membership in the United Nations. The official Sovereign is the British Monarch, currently H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth II. That explains why there are still ?Royal? Police for example. Independence Day is a National Holiday and a big celebration here on the island.
