Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico (the "four corners area"), are full of ruins from ancient dwellers of the area. Called variously Anasazi or Ancestral Puebloan their pueblos, kivas, granaries, and dwellings, whether under a cliff or on a mesa top are scattered generously over the entire area. There are several parks dedicated to giving greater understanding. In Utah you can visit the Anasazi State Park in Boulder, Edge of the Cedars Park in Blanding, or Hovenweep NM outside of Bluff. There are also other areas less organized where with a little bit of research and a short or long hike you can find places where people lived a thousand years ago. They left fingerprints in the adobe, pottery, and other various clues to their lifestyle, but few clues as to what was important to them or why they left. They have always fascinated me.
