The most Ottoman of all mosques in Damascus, the Tekiyya Suleimaniya has the double prestige of associating two of the most famous Ottoman figures. The first is Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, who commissioned its construction, and the second is Sinan, the well known Ottoman architect who designed it. The Tekiyya Suleimaniya was built in 1554 AD, a distance outside Old Damascus, on the site of the Roman Hippodrome. It is situated among beautiful gardens and surrounded by other historic buildings.
