  Ragged Staff Gates
by GibJoe

The Gates were created in 1736, where a jetty was used by ships to obtain supplies from the shore. The name Ragged Staff is becuase at the end of this jetty there was a ragged mast, and the naval term for mast is staff. The gates for foot passage were opened in 1843 and in 1921.
