Built in 1580 AD, this early Ottoman-period mosque has a beautiful minaret that is neither Ottoman nor Mamluke in style. The mosque's fašade is typically Damascene with its triple coloured stripes. Unfortunately, the mosque went through a severe restoration project in 2001 that rendered it as shiny as new. Unless the mosque was in near destruction state, I would not consider this a successful restoration, with the exception of its minaret which seems to have been spared. Assadat Mosque is located just south of Via Recta, at the western end of Old Damascus.
