Maribor castle kind of sneaks up on you without you realising it. The castle is not immediately obvious as a castle and has more of a town palace look to it.
The castle is located in the centre of maribor and built up around the centre's main squares - Grajski Trg, Svobode Trg and Trg Generala Maistra.
The castle was built between the years 1478 and 1483 under the rule of Emperor Frederick III.
While the castle was closed on the day of my visit, tours of the castle are usually available. The main features worthy of attention include The Festive Hall, Loretto Chapel and Baroque Stairway. The castle alos houses the Regional Museum of Mribor.
