One of the best things to do when in Gruene is to hitch a ride on an inner tube, and get sent down the lazy Guadalupe River. I have gone tubing several times, and it is an opportunity to relax in the sun, or enjoy a flask of sangria over the afternoon. There are definitely times of the year when this is more fun, but when we went in March, it may have been a little too cold to enjoy it this time. I would highly recommend this activity if you are passing through in the summer time.

As a warning though, you may want to enjoy this trip during the week in the summer if you have the opportunity, as on weekends there are alot of people that make their way from San Antonio and Austin.

Likely, when you get to Gruene, you will stop in to Gruene Rafting Company, which is the most convenient way to get your "Toob". They will also transport you directly back to the location at the end of your float which is important. It is also a great idea to head up the road to the Gristmill afterward, so that you can wear off the effects of the drinks you enjoyed on the raft.
