Completed in 1222 AD, the Madrassa al-'Adiliyeh is a typical Ayyubid-period structure more commonly found in Aleppo. Although less elaborate, its architectural style is not too dissimilar to the neighbouring Madrassa al-Zahiriyeh. Al-'Adiliyeh is named after the brother of Saladdin, al-Adil Saifeddine, who is buried within. It is located northwest of the Omayyad Mosque, just north of Souk al-Hamidiyeh. The Madrassa currently houses the Arab Academy, but for a while previously, it was home to the National Museum.
