The Blue Door Bar & Restaurant: "One of Fredericton's best" Top 5 Page for this destination Fredericton Restaurant Tip by Bwana_Brown

Following my arrival back in Fredericton after five months spent working in Regina, Saskatchewan, Sue and I decided to treat ourselves to a top-notch meal at one of Fredericton's finest restaurants - the blue door. Although it was only 6:30 PM on a Thursday evening, we were astounded at how packed out the place was when we arrived without calling ahead. Luckily, there was still a small table available for us beside the bar area and the passageway into the kitchen! The restaurant was really alive with people talking and laughing, background music playing and the waiters hustling around as they dealt with their customers. We loved the place as soon as we stepped through the door - but reservations are definitely recommended no matter what night of the week it is! According to Wikitravel it is also "recognized for great service (multiple servers nominated for Above & Beyond Awards) and is considered one of the more 'hip' places to go for dinner, or simply for a great wine selection, or a couple of tasty martinis."
Favorite Dish: With a New Brunswick born chef, voted the best in Fredericton in 2005, and owners with years of restaurant experience at ski resorts in British Columbia, the blue door is noted for its eclectic menu with west-coast influences - so it was not long before we were headed down that track.
I had a delicious 'Seared Pistachio Scallops' dish ($23) with tri-coloured baby potatoes, a mixture of chef's vegetables including onions and flavoured with coconut pistachio chipotle sauce. Sue decided to stick with one of her favourites: Red Thai coconut chicken curry ($16), consisting of sauteed chicken, red & green peppers, medium spicy red Thai curry sauce served in a bowl with jasmine rice. For starters we had fresh oven-hot bread with garlic butter as well glasses of Australian Shiraz ($9) and Californian Pinot Grigio ($8). The meal was fantastic, with so much red curry that we could not finish the dish, and the service was excellent even though the restaurant was humming with activity. With a tip the total meal cost, including two rounds of wine, was $96 - and well worth it!
