Wat Xieng Thong is one of the oldest and most beautiful wats in Luang Prabang. It was founded in 1560 and it still remains fantastic!
The grounds of the wat are spread out, and there are several buildings of intrest. The sim is the oldest building on the grounds and it is bautifully decorated in wood and gold. On the back of the sim you'll find a mosaic of the tree of life.
There is a special funery carrige house which contains a huge golden funeral carriage , 12 metres high and various funeral urn of the royal family. In this building you'll find many roayl puppetsthat were once used for performances.
A small building contains a special rare, reclining buddha, that remains from the construction of the tempel.
We all enjoyed to wander around this superb tempel complex. It is open from 8 am -5 pm, we payed 20.000 kip (10.000 each, kids were free)
I can recommend this tempel, if you cannot visit all of the tempels, you defenitely should visit this one!
Directions: Near the northern tip of the peninsula where the Mekong river meets the Nam Khan
