While in Edinburgh you might like to visit the "Scotch Whisky Heritage centre" the centre explains the making of whisky from the start, it is done in a series of exhibits combined with smells and sounds. A taste of the product is given at the end. The restaurant in the centre is very good and serves tradional Scottish dishes (often with a drop of the water of life added).
