Stone House Cafe.: "Follow the locals." Pictou Restaurant Tip by Tricky_Dicky69

The Stone House Cafe restaurant is one of Pictou's most historic buildings and dates back to the early 1800's. The original house was for many years Pictou's largest and was originally built for John Dawson, a local businessman. The Stone House Cafe is appropriately named as it is of a freestone and scottish granite construction and as well as a private home has also been used as a store and offices. The present owners bought the property in 1987.
Favorite Dish: The menu was large and very varied to say the least. All the usual starters were on offer including soup, salads, chowder, mussels and garlic bread. Best value is the Stone House platter whic consists of deep fried zucchini, mushrooms, onion rings and potato skins all for $7.65 and enough for two to share. Mains ranged from all the usual seafood to steaks, turkey, liver & onions, pork schnitzel, sauerkraut & sausage, lasagna, pizzas as well as sandwiches, hot dogs and burgers. Something for everyone. Drinks were very reasonable, fortunately, 1/2 litre of house wine was $11.55 and we rounded things off with a couple of coffees and liquers, as usual.
This is not a flash restaurant by any means but had a certain local charm. There were a lot of locals eating when we were there which is usually a good sign. All food sampled was very good. Worth a visit.
