Vermillion and Cinnabar is a very lavishly decorated Thai restaurant with a bar on the top floor. It is located in Newton Heath, East Manchester, where the supercasino was going to open (but now isn't). This is a very rundown part of Manchester, but only about 3 miles from the city centre, so is convenient to get a taxi to.
5 million was spent on the decoration and it really is individual and exotic. Vermillion is the restaurant bit and it has lots of illuminated Buddha heads, black screens, coral beams and copper, and plenty of red. Attention to detail extends all the way through to the tables plates and cutlery.
Food is extremely good, although quite expensive and the portions are medium sized. There is a lot of choice on the menu and dishes are labelled with one, two or three stars depending on how spicy they are.
The wines list is good with some reasonable priced ones, and some very expensive ones! They also serve champagne by the glass which I like - 8 for a glass of Moet and Chandon.
The service was very good with lots of staff and everything arrived quite quickly. They were also very helpful in answering questions about the food.
This is certainly a restaurant I would go back to - although it was very expensive for a Thai.
Cinnabar is the top floor bar and if this was in the city centre they would be queueing around the block to get in. Cloud 23 would be empty! However, being in this location, it was very quiet which is a great pity as it is probably one of the best designed bars in Manchester, the best feature being the pod shaped relaxation booths with black leather beds for sprawling on.

Favorite Dish: The red duck curry was very good and they serve sticky rice, which a lot of Thai restuarants in Manchester don't. The jungle curry with red snapper was also excellent and there is a good selection of fish dishes.
We had the mixed starter whcih as very nice, but not as good as the one Moso Moso do and overpriced at 9.50 per person.
