The Iglesia De San Gil Y Santa Ana is a stunning 16th century church locayed just outside the Albaicin area. It was erected on the ruins of old Islamic mosque and designed by Diego de Siloe., the architect who had also designed the cathedral. This church is in reneissance style, too - and in its apparent simplicity, it's full of charm. The facade is not too heavily decorated and the carvings on the doorway very tasteful. Inside there is a wonderful ceiling in Mudejar-style.

Oiginally the Church was only dedicated to Santa Ana - Saint Gil had his own church nearby. However when it became necessary to demolish his own one in the 17th century, to work on the layout of Plaza Nueva, the town decided that Santa Ana would double as the church of Santa Ana and Saint Gil. Another interesting fact about this church is its bell tower. It seems that it was designed just like the minaret of the mosque that was standing in the place of this church
