Recently renovated, the Souk of Aswan is a very pleasant place for a stroll or to shop. The long street -- officially named Sharia Saad Zaghloul though it is commonly referred to as Sharia es-Souk -- is in part covered with awnings to shield the scorching sun in hotter months. Shopping opportunities are plenty: from souvenirs to spices, and from scarves to other exotic items, while a few eateries and cafés offer a break from shopping. Locals as well as tourists frequent the souk giving it an authentic flavour. Touts and haggling exist, but much less intense than in Luxor. I only visited the souk in the morning, so it wasn't very crowded, but I hear that afternoons tend to be much busier. The souk is a couple of blocks east of the Nile Corniche and runs parallel to it from Midan el-Mahatta (Railway Station Square) southwards into the centre of Aswan.
Address: Sharia es-Souk (Saad Zaghloul)
