Amazing example of Jugendstil / art nouveau architecture. The church was built in 1905-07 by the architects Robert Curjel and Karl Moser, who had already planned the Christuskirche ten years earlier (see tip).
While the Christuskirche shows the tradidtional neo-gothic style with only a few art nouveau elements, the architects now used the fully developed repertoire of art nouveau and combined it with some Romanesque elements. Here the 19th century historism has been overcome. New constructiuon techniques and a new style have left their marks.
The ground plan of the interior is the same as in Christuskirche, but here the neo-gothic elements are gone. The vast room is pure Jugendstil. The relief above altar and pulpit, which shows Christ's Sermon on the Mount in a rather abstract way, is both architecture and picture.
