  Ilan's Coffee Bar, Tel-Aviv, Israel
by Martin_S.

Ilan's is a group of coffeeshops that grind your coffee fresh before brewing it. They also sell the coffee in bulk so you can purchase beans from 50 grams to whatever they have in stock. We had the pleasure of enjoying a good cup of coffee and then getting several lessons in coffee making from the manager of the Ilan's in Tel-Aviv just across from the Shalom Tower. We have seen their coffeeshops in several other places, but this was the first that we tried and after this excellent experience we will return.

We also learned that Ilan's provide courses in coffee preparation in a special kitchen located just adjacent to the coffeeshop. The manager Amir was kind enough to show us around and explain several of the different types of "instruments" used to make coffee (he was NOT familiar with the American "percolator" type of coffeemaker so we did have the opportunity to explain something new to him).

Favorite Dish: I enjoyed a combination of brazilian coffee fresh ground, with creamed milk and chocolate and it was a great tasting choice. They do have some pastries and sandwiches, but Ilan's is a haven for COFFEE, not an eatery......They have many different coffee beans to offer and you can get your coffee from freshly ground beans, a great treat for coffee lovers.

But the special thing about this place was the manager, Amir. It is not often that you get a person who is knowledable in not only the making of coffee, but also in the different types of beans. He also personally took time to show us how to make creamed milk which adds a delicious new dimension to your coffee.
