  Victoria Memorial at Kolkata
by Rupanworld

The Victoria Memorial at Kolkata is one of the major tourist attractions in Kolkata. It has a museum showing the city's history. It is a memorial of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom who during the British rule in India was also the Empress of India. It was designed by Sir William Emerson in a similar architectural style as the Belfast City Hall and was built between 1906 and 1921. It is built which beautiful white marble at one end of the Maidan, a green open land in the middle of busy Kolkata city. There is a beautiful garden around it. On top of the dome of the building, there is a black bronze Angel of Victory holding a bugle in her hand. It had a ball at its base that would make it like a weathercock when the wind is blowing hard. however this Angel no longer functions like a weathercock. The rest of the monuments is very well maintained.
