Kanyakumari is the southernmost tip of India and is in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is the point where the Indian ocean, the Bay of Bengal and the arabian sea meets and each of them looks quite distinguishinble from the land. Here one also finds the Thiruvalluvar statue, a mighty one and an experience to remember. For details, please check out my kanyakumari page.

Thiruvalluvar was a famous Tamil poet who lived sometime between 8th and 2nd century BC and his work Thirukkural has been translated into more than 60 languages. The Government of Tamil nadu, on the dawn of the new millenium unveiled a statue in his honour that stands in the middle of the water at the meeting point of the Bay of Bengal, the Indian ocean and the Arabian sea at Kanyakumari. It is a sight to remember all throughout your life. It stands a mammoth height of 133 feet and weighs 7000 tonnes. It took 500 sculptors to finish the great piece of work. It is said that the 38 ft pedestal represents the 38 chapters of this book on 'Virtue' and the 95ft tall body of the poet stands for 'Wealth' and 'Pleasure' signifying that Wealth and Love be earned and enjoyed on the foundation of Virtue solid. The rocks for the sculpture came from Sirudhamoor, Pattumalaikuppam Hills and Ambhasamudram Hills.
