"GIBEON METEORITE FOUNTAIN - WINDHOEK" Top 5 Page for this destination Namibia Things to Do Tip by DAO

Namibia Things to Do: 375 reviews and 557 photos

The Gibeon Meteorites were a massive 150 tons fall of space debris near the town of Gibeon, in Southern Namibia, in 1836. 31 of the original 77 meteorites are displayed on steel columns so you can have a closer look at what was the largest such meteor shower in the world. I wish this was signposted as I didn?t realise its importance until after I left Windhoek. If you are interested, you can actually buy pieces of these meteorites on several internet sites. This interesting piece of history is accessible for free 24 hours a day.
