Ok this is a dedicated tourist area. My suggestion is that you walk to this area and have a meal knowing that it is a tourist restaurant area. I am sure every city has a dedicated area of restaurants and this is one of them. It is just that this area is dedicated to seafood. If you walk to this area you will find that it has its own charm. There are numerous narrow cobbled streets, dark stairways and small shopfronts selling various wares which offer a rare opportunity to see Turkish life away from the tourist areas. Once you get to Kumkapi reconcile yourself to the fact that a number of touts outside each restaurant will try and persuade you they serve the best meals. Bargain a free drink with your meal and insist on only one bottle of water. They try to make up the difference by charging an arm and a leg for the water!!
