The Gothenburg Concerthall is located at Götaplatsens southwest part and was ready in 1935. In May 1916 Caroline Wijk donated 700 000 SEK to be used for a new concert hall in Gothenburg. The donation was made in remembrance of her son Olof Olofson Wijk that tragically died in 1896, only 22 years old.
The original plan for the concert hall was to have it finished for the big exhibition in 1923 but due to financial problems it was delayed. In 1931 and architectural competition was put on wich Nils Einar Eriksson won.
The Swedish national orchestra has the Concert hall as its home stage.
