I've really tried. Been there three times, gone to the very good tourist information centre, got a copy of "Historic Walk of New Norfolk" and yet, somehow, its allure hasn't yet grasped me.
Though it promotes itself as an historic town much of the history lies hidden behind fences or disguised among newer buildings.
It has the oldest continually licensed hotel in the Commonwealth (I always worry about claims like that, did anyone really check India say) called the Bush Inn in Montague Street (pic 4), a tourist attraction called the Oast House (original hop kilns) where I ate lunch and the splendid Tynwald House but, somehow, the whole package is scattered and it really has more appeal as a service town that has a good range of shopping.
I can recommend the golf course as being excellent value as I had a round there and the carvan park is well located by the river but if you spend a day at New Norfolk you'll be able to see most of the highlights.
