Treasurer at the Wallachian Court, Amza Naescu built between 1807-1810 Amzei Church. The original church did not survive, except for the stone carved memoriam (located on the Northern facade of the actual church). Several monk cells were raised around the church, and they also hosted a basic school. The church was destroyed by a fire in 1846, being repaired in 1875. In 1898, the old church was demolished, and the actual structure was raised after the plans drawn by Architect Savulescu. It was completed in 1901; the iconostasis was carved by Gheorghe Babic, while tha painting was done by Marchetti Umberto. Nowadays this church is an unexpected, pleasant surprise behind Amzei Market (between the market and Calea Victoriei).
