Pak Ou caves basically consist of a few caves full of hundreds of Buddha statues. The main cave is easy to reach from the river, the other caves are accessed via a steep flight of steps. It is a good idea to take a torch if you have one; if not, they can be hired, if you feel the need!
The caves are not particularly spectacular, bit the trip it self is an enjoyable experience. Across the river are a number of restaurants which provide cheap, good food. The one we went to provided very slow service, which was unusual for Laos.
Directions: About 2 and half hours by boat from Luang Prabang
