When people think of a trip to Puerto Rico what comes to find are the tradional tourist destinations; el Morro, The rain forrest, casinos, gold courses and the great beaches, but here is a destination that if you are into sun, sea and fun surely will make for a memorable trip.
Cayo Caracoles is off the coast of Puerto Rico in a town called La Parguera. To get there you would have to fly into Ponce Airport, rent a car and make your way just east of Lajas (ask at the airport or consult a map its a pretty direct route from Ponce). What makes this location a must is the beatiful bay, the clear blue water (phosporous bay) and the fact that it is a place where the locals go. The cay is about a 15 minute boat ride (your own or a rental) there are rentals available in the town center. The town itself has a small arcade and shops as well as plenty of restaurants where the prices won't kill you.
Drinks are reasonable, much more so than here. The Cay is comprised of a set of small islands and if you are lucky enough to get out there, the views are great and as the water is about 3 - 4 foot deep youcan wander about walking the reef or riding the current between the islands. If you are a camping afficionado, camping is permitted on the cays, find a place setup your tent and enjoy. But i have to warn you there are no facilities, be sure to bring the essentials.
We run trips to the island once a year so if you are interested in a unique adventure drop me a line.
