The name of this shop makes a word play on Poisson d'Avril, the April Fool's joke the French play on each other of surreptitiously slapping a paper fish on someone's back (I love the French sense of humor)!

Down the rue de Bievre sits a Thirza Vallois suggestion from her Romantic Paris book, Passion d’Avril, which is located at #26. This store offers bibelots & bijoux of beautiful handmade jewelry, purses, hats, scarves and umbrellas. I spied a gorgeous peacock blue beaded velvet opera purse adorned with tiny feathers and I promised madame I’d be back to purchase it which I did a few days later along with some old-fashioned Parisian refrigerator magnets, a pair of pale antique-looking blue drop earrings that had a fin de siècle appearance about them (a bijoux ancien, as it were), a silver bracelet with melamine red & pink hearts (it was Valentine's Day) for my daughter, along with a coin purse for a friend.

The shop is too beautiful to believed; you have to shop there if you get the chance!

Two doors down lives Francois Mitterrand’s widow, Daphne. Her name doesn't show up on the buzzer but the initials DM do. It amazes me that such a small, intimate street as the rue Bievre, which follows the curved course of the Bievre river (it runs below the street now) was home to one of greatest political leaders, the Sphinx. Next to his home lies the pretty little Jardin de la rue de Bievre tucked behind a gate.
Many thanks to Don/Nemorino for correct spelling of Mitterrand's name - much appreciated!!
