"Cadiz" Andalucía Things to Do Tip by blint
Andalucía Things to Do: 228 reviews and 367 photos
This is where I live the the South West of Andalucia, situated on the Atlantic coastline. Cadiz capital is the oldest recorded town in Europe, though there isn't much evidence of that today it is still far from modern. It was from the neighbouring town of El Puerto de Santa Maria that Columbus set sail for America.
If you like wine and Sherry then head to Jerez de la Frontera where you can go and visit one of the many bodegas (cellers) in the birthplace of sherry.
Also in the province of Cadiz you will find many spectacular white villages, perched on hilltops. some of the best ones are Arcos de la Frontera, Vejer de la Frontera and Grazalema. From Grazalema you can go off into the mountains of Cadiz and tire yourself out hiking and the suchlike.
Though perhaps the main reason to come here is to relax on one of the many unspoilt beaches along the Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light). Cadiz Capital even boasts a glorious beach though the best ones are: Los Caños de Meca, Bolonia, Tarifa and Conil. As you can probably imagine you can do various types of water sports here such as Surfing. Due to the fact it is often windy you can also go Kite Surfing which is very popular in Tarifa.
Don't forget that the British rock of Gibralter is attached to Cadiz in the very south where the Atlantic meets the Med creating British type weather. to visit it you must take your passport with you even if you are British or Spanish.
I have a very complete page on Cadiz if you would like more info: Take me to Cadiz
