Once one of the most respected schools in Cairo, this rare Ayyubid-period Madrassa was built in 1225 AD by a nephew of Saladdin, al-Kamil Ayyub. It went into decline after the famine of 1404 AD, but was partially restored in the 18th century. The entrance, shown in the attached photographs, exhibits Ottoman influences because of the 18th century restoration. The Madrassa al-Kamiliyya is located on the passage of Bein el-Qasrein, next to the Mausoleum of Barquq.
