We arrived in Sterling quite late in the afternoon. We were not able to go inside the Castle due to the fact that it was closing and, it was beginning to get dark. We still had to make our way to Edinburgh and find somewhere to stay the night.

I'm glad we had the chance to see the Wallace Monument which stands on the Abbey Craig, outside the City of Sterling, overlooking the site of The Battle of Stirling Bridge, even though at a distance. In 1297, William Wallace defeated the English army as it attempted to cross the River Forth. Another great battle was later won by Robert the Bruce in 1314 at Bannockburn.
