Abu Tarek is one of the most famous local restaurants serving excellent koshari (described further below). Due to its local fame, some tourists have found their way here, but most of the clientele is of the local type. It is unpretentious, non-luxurious, extremely cheap, and serves what many think is the best koshari in town. The ground floor is self-service, but waiter service is available on the upper floors. Abu Tarek is located on Champollion Street, downtown Cairo, not too far from Talaat Harb Square.

Favorite Dish: Koshari is one of the signature dishes of Egyptian cuisine. It is composed of layers of macaroni pasta, rice, lentils, fried onions and a light tomato sauce - a simple but quite delicious dish (see attached photo). A bowl of Koshari downstairs costs L.E. 3 (3 Egyptian Pounds).
