The cathedral is placed right in the middle of the town, between the main harbour and Breiavatnet .
The Norway's oldest cathedral was built around 1125 and dedicated to St. Svithun. It is the only Norwegian cathedral from the Middle Ages that has retained its original appearance and been in constant use.
Looking at its architecture I can only say that the initial Romanic cathedral has probably later added a gothic extension.
The overall aspect is a Romanic one but the eastern side is clearly gothic, with all the specific elements included.
I have tried to get in my photos some of the architectural elements... enjoy them.
It is nice that every year the flower arrangement on the eastern side of the cathedral is changed.
Usually the bright coloured flowers are enlightening the simple appearance of the stone building.
