The cycle rickshaw was the common mode of transport until about the 80's even in the urban areas all over the country, but its last vestige seems to be the rural heartland of India as well the old pockest in most of the cities. Hence, as in the older parts of most other cities in India, old Delhi also has its fair share of cycle rickshaws.

Though it did seem insensitive and inhuman to be getting a ride in one of the cycle rickshaws in Old Delhi (Chandni Chowk, Chawri bazar, Red Fort areas), its a source of livelihood to the people who ride them. You can bargain for the price before you decide to get a ride in them. These areas are heavily congested making them unfit to drive a car or vehicle through, so its entirely upto you if wana hitch a ride in them or not and you can definetely pay them more than what you had bargained for to ease the guilt factor!!!
