"Ben Nevis" Fort William Things to Do Tip by waitingfor22

If you climb Ben Nevis, you will be treated to some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. I highly recommend it. Do not let others talk you out of it by saying it's too hard or the weather is too nasty. When I awoke on a July morning last year, a fellow tourist warned me that it'd be far too cold to climb the Ben that day (I had packed only summer clothing). Later, when I got to the Ben Nevis visitor centre, I saw a huge list of things they recommend: plenty of food and water, raincoat, overcoat, hiking boots, poncho, torch/flashlight, whistle/alarm, compass, map, assorted winter clothing, and other things I can't remember. It would not hurt taking these things, but I found out that it'd really be overdoing it if you packed everything they recommend, at least if you climb in summer like I did. I grabbed a brochure which showed the best walking route, and headed up the mountain. I wore jeans, a hooded sweatshirt and tennis shoes. With me I carried an energy bar and a bottle of water. There were no major problems. Of course it was chilly at the summit, and I was pretty hungry at the end of the day, but it was well worth it. There are plenty of streams of delicious water to quench your thirst on your way up and down. And not taking a huge pack full of things made my step lighter and easier. If you are thinking about climbing Ben Nevis, DO NOT PASS UP THE CHANCE! Don't fret because you don't have a raincoat or something. If you returned from your climb hungry, thirsty, tired, and soaked to the skin, you still would remember the beauty more than all of the inconveniences.
