"Plaza San Francisco" Quito Things to Do Tip by acemj
Quito Things to Do: 454 reviews and 1,200 photos
The Plaza San Francisco is an enormous and slightly drab space, with no benches or trees. It makes up for the melancholy air with the grand proportions of the Iglesia y Monasteria de San Francisco (San Francisco Church and Monastery). The church is a bit dark inside, but the main altar is worth the visit with a carving of the Virgen of Quito, which was a model for the statue on El Panecillo.
The Museo de San Francisco ($2 for a ticket) next door is full of artwork from the Quito school and we had a "free" guide show us around. He said he was studying tourism and was giving free tours to practice his English, but of course, he was expecting a tip, which we were glad to provide.
