The Pavilhão dos Deportes was originally built as ?The Industry Palace? for the International Exhibition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1923. After the exhibition, it was dismantled and rebuilt piece by piece in its present location on the east side of Parque Eduardo VII. It was renamed the Pavilhão Carlos Lopes after a marathon runner who won the Olympic gold in 1984. It contains a sports hall, but in recent times has been used more for concerts and meetings. It appears to be closed at the moment, whilst a decision is being made on its future use.

On the outside are a number of panels of azulejo pictures. One of these represents the Ala dos Namorados during the battle of Aljubarrota between the Portuguese and the Castilian armies in 1385.

Address: Avenida Sidónio Pais 16, 1070-051 Lisboa
Directions: East side of Parque Eduardo VII
