This restaurant made "Chicken in the Ruff" a speciality of the house starting in the 1930s and continuing today.
The building is no longer a hotel but the restaurant portion that dates back to the mid 1800s is still popular. Its excellent food and friendly hometown service continue to make it a favorite eating place for well over a century.
Whether you take the petite prime rib plate ($18) or the Chicken French ($15) or the Lasagna with meat ($13), you will get a good portion and a good selection of side dishes (vegetables, salads, soups). Rice pudding for dessert (with cinnamon) and a final cup of coffee round out a pleasant meal.
The decor is old dark wood that looks post-depression. The staff are locals who are really interested in providing you good service and great food, served warm and promptly. There is always a recital of a long list of daily specials which include items like New England corn chowder and Washington smoked salmon and New Zealand lamb chops.
The total meal for two including tax and tip is between $40 and $50 typically.
The restaurant opens weekdays after 4pm and close by 10pm. Weekends open for brunch at 1pm and close by 8pm.
