Favorite thing: This is the county where some of my immediate relatives were born and raised.

It is one of the lesser dense counties as far as population goes; 65000 people.

The annual Genesee County Fair is held in Batavia. (http://www.gcfair.com/)

Fondest memory: The name of the county comes from the Seneca Indian word for "beautiful valley"; Gen Nis Hee Yoh.

The county seat is Batavia. The county government was established in 1802.
The official website is: http://www.geneseeny.com/

The important towns and hamlets in the region are listed below (I have VT pages for each of them).
Alabama, Alexander, Attica, Batavia, Bergen, Bethany, Byron, Corfu, Darien, Elba, Le Roy, Oakfield, Pavilion, Pembroke, Stafford

Interesting places to visit are: Darien Lake, Conesus Lake, Geneseo College, Tonawanda Reservation, Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, the Holland Land Office in Batavia, the city of Batavia
