"Don't forget this one (geddit ?)" Carlsberg Brewery Tip by sourbugger
Carlsberg Brewery, Copenhagen: 33 reviews and 67 photos
If you are looking national symbols of Denmark, then the Carlsberg elephants must be in the running. These four magnificent carvings form the gate that leads to the main entrance to the Carlsberg brewery. They were completed in 1901 and if you look carefully include the initials of the four surviving sons of the founder Jacobson. They also use the Swastika symbol. The symbol itself is, of course, a very ancient Indian symbol standing for health and prosperity. Its confusion with the ?crooked cross? of Nazi Germany led to the company dropping the logo in the 1930?s. It still however seems odd to come across it in the modern day.
It?s easy to miss this gate, as the bus route to the visitors centre and the more direct route from the railway station don?t go past the gate. Make sure you divert !
