La obra se erige en el mismo sitio donde el general Murat mandó fusilar a numerosos madrileños después del Levantamiento del 2 de mayo de 1808. Se encuentra en la Plaza de la Lealtad de Madrid, junto al Paseo del Prado. Fue diseñada por Isidro Gonzalez Velazquez.
