This little rail tour cost was nominal and well worth your time. It only takes you around the mountain, but while on the tour the audio tape and the conductor points out the many significate areas of the mountain side. They point out the King Mine entrance up the mountain, they point out several white rocky markers to let you know where some settlements were at and where many Native Americans used this area searching for pigment since this area is rich is so many minerals of rocks. It is amazing as you sit in somewhat comfort and looking accross this back part of the rocky landscape, trying to imagine seeing people, men, women and children trying to making a living or existance of the meager supplies. Not too much wood was accessible, so they probably constructed their homes from the abundance of rocks that are everywhere. Yet, as a parent I would had been scared to death in letting my children run about because it is the desert filled with many poisonous creatures let alone all the open mine pits that dot this whole mountain range.
Directions: 10 miles north of Barstow, exit I-15 onto Ghost Town Rd
