"Lake Palace Hotel" Taj Lake Palace Tip by Willettsworld

Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur: 11 reviews and 24 photos

The Lake Palace Hotel is probably the most associated sight of Udaipur. Known, also, as Jag Niwas, it was built between 1734 and 1751 by Maharaja Jagat Singh II and was once a royal summer retreat and is now one of the world's most prestigous hotels. The palace faces east, allowing its inhabitants to pray to the Sun god at the crack of dawn. Take a boat trip around the lake and you'll get the chance to see it from the other side (i.e. not the side facing the City Palace). The palace is also well known as being the location of Octopussy's island home in the James Bond film Octopussy.
